A mountain of winter fun.

Did you know that 90 percent of Red River's lodging is within walking distance from the slopes and that two out of the six chairlifts rise directly from town? And winter diversions for non-skiers are as varied as our terrain - and equally accessible - be it on the slopes, on a snowmobile or out on the town. With an abundance of snow every year, present day Red River has become the Winter Playground of the Southern Rockies and a destination for snow loving fun-seekers from around the world.

Cross-country skiingCross Country Skiing and Snowshoeing - "Enchanting" is an accurate description for a day at the Enchanted Forest Cross Country Ski Area. Located at the top of 9,800-foot Bobcat Pass, just five minutes from the heart of Red River, the Enchanted Forest offers the Nordic skiing experience at its finest with more than 30 kilometers of groomed trails and six kilometers of natural trails winding through 1,400 acres in the Carson National Forest. Equipment and lessons are available for all ability levels. Regular events include Full Moon tours, Ladies' Day, cross country skiers' improvement clinics and long distance races. Snowshoeing is one of the fastest growing winter sports. Try it - it's easy and you'll like it. All ages can enjoy snowshoeing along the groomed trails and narrower special snowshoe trails at the Enchanted Forest.

Torchlight paradeRed River Ski Area offers something for every member of your family, from a low, slow beginner lift to a new High Speed triple chair make a variety of intermediate and expert runs available. Our nationally-recognized ski school has packages for all levels of ability, from beginning to advanced. For the free spirits who want to try the snowboarding park, instruction and equipment rentals are available at the ski area and at rental shops in town. Every Saturday night during ski season, in accordance with tradition, fearless souls with flaming torches in hand ritually descend "The Face", while colorful fireworks illuminate the dark winter sky overhead. This unforgettable spectacle of sight and sound is only a small part of the excitement and fun that awaits you in the Ski Town of the Southwest.

Red River Ski Area - is the "Ski Town of the Southwest". Winter visitors enjoy excellent skiing on the 10,350 foot mountain which rises from the middle of town toward the old, western mining sites of the 1800s. High in the Southern Rockies, skiers tackle 57 powder-covered runs.
