fishingFishing - Red River stocks more trout per year than any other public river in the country, so fishing is outstanding. With numerous high alpine lakes and mountain streams, you'll find plenty of places to wet your hooks, including our namesake, the Rio Colorado - Spanish for "Red River" - which runs through the town. Introduce your children to the fine art of fishing at the free children's pond located in the heart of Red River!

Horseback Riding - The Old West may be gone but horses remain very much a part of the summer scene in Red River. Several outfitters provide horses and guides to lead you along the mountain trails.

hikingHiking - Red River is surrounded by 138 miles of marked hiking trails. Pick up trail maps at the Chamber of Commerce. Those wanting a brief walk to enjoy flora and fauna can explore the nature trails across the river or up Mallette Canyon. Serious hikers have the entire Wheeler Peak Wilderness area to trek.

Cowboy Evenings - Take yourself back a hundred years with a covered wagon ride through the rolling hills of Moreno Valley, a chuck wagon steak dinner, and cowboy music under the stars.

bikingBicycles - Enjoy biking at its best with single tracks, aspen groves, mountain streams, wildflower meadows and a town that welcomes mountain bikes and riders of all ages and abilities.

Golf - The Red Eagle Golf Course, New Mexico's newest mountain golf course, is located nine miles southeast of Red River and offers a 18 hole course, with another nine holes scheduled to open this summer.

Chairlift - The summer chairlift will take you to the top of the world where you can picnic, hike through alpine meadows, or just take in the breathtaking view.

4-wheelingJeeps and ATVs - If you want to see some spectacular high country views, several businesses rent jeeps and ATVs. You can also take a guided tour, hear a jeep driver tell tall tales, and see the old mining camps.

Good Clean Family Fun - Red River offers enough good clean fun to keep your kids entertained for days. Rent a surrey and pedal around town at your own pace, maybe stopping for an ice cream cone if the spirit moves. Kids of all ages flock to the Black Mountain Playhouse for pool, ping pong, video games and skating. How about having a family tennis, frisbee, golf or sand volleyball tournament at Mallette Park? Melodramas at the Mineshaft Theater and shootouts at Frye's Old Town provide an opportunity for all to cheer the good guys and hiss at the bad. Community House Square dancing, bridge tournaments, church services and more make the Community House a summer social center.
