San Luis Valley, Bountiful, Colorado

Grass-fed farming practices provide a multitude of benefits. Read below how they can be a blessing to your health, the animals, and the environment.

The difference in nutritional quality between grassfed and grainfed animals is dramatic ...

  • Animals fed in feedlots contain more total fat, more saturated fat, more cholesterol and more calories
  • Grassfed meat has about the same amount of fat as skinless chicken and lean meat can actually lower your LDL levels
  • A 6oz. steak from a grassfed steer has almost 100 fewer calories than the same steak from a grainfed steer

The Omega 3 Factor ...

  • Omega 3 fats ( the good fats ) play a vital role in the functioning of every system in your body. They are shown to reduce heart attack risk, brain disorders ( Alzheimer's, ADD, and depression ), and even reduce the growtth and spread of many types of cancer
  • Grassfed animals have more omega 3's because these fats are created in the green leaves of plants
  • The optimum ratio of omega 6 fats to omega 3 fats in the diet is 1 to 1. Today's meat, chicken and vegetable oil runs about 20 to 1 ! Grassfed meat and chicken runs about 3 to 1 and pasture raised eggs run about 1.5 to 1, and supermarket eggs ?? 20 to 1!!
  • Even grain finished animals are much lower in Omega 3's. Just 60 days on grain reduces EPA, DHA, and ALA ( 3 types of Omega 3's ) by more than half !

The CLA Factor ...

  • Conjugated Linoleic Acid is another fat shown to reduce risk of cancer, diabetes, immune system disorders and obesity ( it actually aids in weightloss )
  • Grassfed products are the richest known source of CLA - 5 times more than grassfed products
  • A Finnish study showed that women with diets high in CLA had a 60% lower risk of breast cancer compared to those with a low CLA diet

The Vitamin E factor ...

  • Vitamin E has a long list of health benefits and that list seems to get longer with more research. The typical American diet falls far short of the amount of vitamin E needed to bring about these benefits.
  • Grassfed products have 4 times more vitamin E than grainfed products

The Environmental Factor ...

  • Pasturing animals encourages biodiversity since the manure is a benefit to microflora of the soil
  • Pasturing eliminates manure as a source of pollution and instead makes it an asset of soil fertility, spread thinly by the animals themselves
  • Fossil fuel use is reduced since the animals feed themselves and not dependent on the use of massive harvesting equipment to provide grain
  • SO CHOOSE GRASSFED ...
    • And in one decision you get wholesome, nutritious food, protect the environment, help to give animals a happy, contented existence, and support local farmers and your local economy !
